Hot Sax and Good Gear

Hello Music Lover!

No matter how convincing you look, your Halloween costume does not make you a cowboy or a doctor or a superhero. This may seem obvious NOW. But during the rest of the year we tend to forget.

We think that swinging the most expensive tennis racket will turn us into Serena Williams. Or that strapping on the flashiest rock guitar will give us fingers as fast as Eddie Van Halen. Or that sporting the most fashionable eyewear will make us as influential as Sarah Palin.

Looking the part is so much fun that we insist upon buying all the coolest STUFF. We become fooled by our own costume. At some point we must choose - Do we really want to BE? Or are we satisfied with just PRETENDING to be?

Good gear does not make you gifted. Shop less. Practice more.

This Halloween weekend, while you are out dining or bar-hopping (the adult version of Trick-or-Treating), be sure to haunt the hangouts where live music is happening. There you may find actual accomplished musicians disguised as ordinary people. They will make it look so easy, you will believe that you can play music, too (if you just buy the right gear!).

Looking forward to seeing you soon at an upcoming live performance! (see listing in left column)

P.S. "I need a new computer that has a spell checker," moaned the witch after turning herself into a toad.

Do you think I'm a witch now for casting a shadow on your craving for costly crap? Here's how to avoid falling under my spell: Squeeze your eyes shut, stick your fingers in your ears, stomp your feet and shout, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me!"
