40 years in music

Hi friend,

This summer marks 40 years since I embarked on my full-time professional music career. Teaching private lessons, jazz workshops and school clinics has been an important part of my livelihood as well as a way to contribute the gift of music to my community. And now, I am ready to free up some time in my life to enjoy travel and other creative pursuits.

I am closing my music teaching studio in July, and I am feeling a little sentimental about that. I realize that many of my current friends are former adult students! Since moving to the Northern California coastside 26 years ago, I have sat one-on-one with 272 aspiring musicians ages 9 thru 88. Some students studied weekly with me for as long as 12 years! This has been such a unique way to get to know people, to be supportive during their challenges and to guide them toward their dreams. I am grateful.

After four decades of making a living in this crazy profession, my passion for performing music is as strong as ever. I've slowed down the pace in recent years, but I cannot imagine giving up playing live. I'm still having too much fun! During the next few weeks, I am excited to change things up a little and invite two different special guests to play with me.

Guitarist extraordinaire Rick Vandivier of Palo Alto is only available to perform with me at Moss Beach Distillery a couple of times a year. So, it's always a treat to enjoy his sophisticated guitar technique and upbeat attitude. Come hear us this Wednesday from 5-7 p.m.

Incredibly talented pianist Murray Low of Santa Cruz will bring a whole new sound to my gigs at La Costanera and Moss Beach Distillery in July. Murray is best known for his contributions to the Latin Jazz, Salsa and Afro-Cuban musical landscape, and he is so versatile that we can play just about anything together.

Save the dates, invite some friends and fill your summer with leisurely live music!
