Suddenly, I am aware that my favorite music was hot at least thirty years ago. The radio stations that play it, if there are any left, are now called "retro" at best or "oldies" at worst.
This revelation is oddly freeing for me. Being trendy requires constant comparison of oneself and one's endeavors with the ever-changing popular culture. The thrust of this culture is to appeal to young people. Freed from the burden of trying to appear fashionable, I get to express myself authentically, informed by all of the wisdom and maturity that my life experience has provided.
